Volunteer Statement

For individuals volunteering with The Women in STEM Network (WiSN), a project by Mums in Science Ltd (UK)

At The Women in STEM Network, we are immensely grateful to everyone who contributes their time, creativity, and expertise to help us empower women and bridge the global STEM skills gap. Our volunteers play a vital role in building a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive space for women in STEM—whether through mentorship, events, content, or innovation.

This statement outlines the mutual understanding between WinS and our volunteers.

1. Our Commitment to Volunteers

We deeply value all contributions, large or small, and recognise the unique strengths each volunteer brings.

We understand that your time is freely given, and we do not take it for granted.

We offer a welcoming, respectful environment that values diversity and individuality.

You will receive certificates of recognition upon request, acknowledging your support and achievements.

Where appropriate, your work (such as articles, talks, or initiatives) may be promoted with full credit to support your professional development.

There is no required minimum commitment—your involvement is entirely voluntary and always appreciated.

All WinS volunteers will receive lifetime VIP access to the full Women in STEM platform once it is launched.

2. Volunteer Activities

Our volunteers may:

  • Attend meetings or represent WiSN at external events
  • Write or co-author articles, blogs, or thought leadership pieces
  • Make phone calls or assist with outreach to sponsors, collaborators, or partners
  • Share ideas for new platform features or community activities
  • Help promote our events, training sessions, and network-building opportunities
  • Support mentorship or community engagement programmes

You are encouraged to contribute in a way that aligns with your interests, availability, and skills.

3. Nature of the Relationship

Volunteering with WiSN is voluntary and unpaid.

Volunteers are not considered employees and are not covered by employment laws or contracts.

Either party can withdraw from the arrangement at any time without formal notice.

4. Expenses

While we are not currently in a financial position to reimburse expenses, we are committed to doing so as soon as we are able, and will make every effort to ensure this becomes possible in the near future.

5. What We Ask of You

Please act with respect, kindness, and professionalism in all your interactions representing WiSN .

Ensure all contributions align with our values: equity, opportunity, innovation, and support.

Respect the confidentiality and dignity of all those engaged in our community.

6. Content, Ownership & Credit

We aim to credit all contributions where relevant.

Any material produced as part of your volunteer role may be edited or published to fit our brand and mission.

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, all work created on behalf of WiSN remains the intellectual property of Mums in Science Ltd.

7. Insurance & Liability

As a small pre-revenue business reinvesting entirely into our mission, we do not yet provide volunteer insurance. Volunteers are responsible for their own wellbeing and conduct.

8. Our Shared Purpose

By volunteering with us, you are helping to build a better, more inclusive world of STEM—where women have the tools, network, and visibility they need to succeed. We are honoured to have you with us.
