Timeline and Growth

2005 The Beginning

Dr Shara Cohen founded Mums in Science to support women balancing professional and family responsibilities while working in STEM.

2008 Growing Connections

The first informal meetups were organised to help women in STEM share experiences and build professional networks.

2012 Expanding Influence

The community continued to grow, reaching more than five thousand members across Facebook and LinkedIn.

2016 Purpose and New Direction

After a personal health diagnosis, Shara sold EuroSciCon and dedicated her work to ventures centred on social impact, inclusion, and wellbeing. Mums in Science continued to expand and Cancer Care Parcel was founded to support families affected by cancer.

2018 Building a Digital Presence

The community surpassed fifty thousand members and developed a strong online presence that reflected growing international demand for resources and support.

2020 Rebuilding and Resilience

Following a major system failure, the platform was rebuilt with improved technology, virtual events, and a renewed focus on professional growth and security.

2022 Formal Incorporation

Mums in Science Ltd was formally established as a limited company to provide a sustainable foundation for long-term growth and international collaboration.

2024 National Recognition

Dr Shara Cohen received the British Empire Medal for services to women in STEM and families affected by cancer. This year also marked the transition from project to full international network with members and ambassadors worldwide.

2025 The Women in STEM Network Today

The Women in STEM Network launched as a global platform for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. With forums, mentoring, and a growing library of training resources, it connects members across more than sixty countries.

The network continues to grow and evolve, expanding opportunities for women in every area of STEM and working towards a truly inclusive global community.
