Author Guidelines

The Women in STEM Network welcomes thoughtful, well written contributions from authors across the world who wish to explore the realities, challenges, and opportunities facing women working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Our platform exists to amplify women’s voices, improve visibility, and contribute meaningfully to conversations about careers, workplace culture, and systemic change in STEM.

What We Publish

Personal Experience Articles

We welcome first person pieces from women working in any aspect of STEM globally. These articles may reflect on individual journeys, professional challenges, growth, and insight.

Personal experience pieces often explore career progression, workplace culture, leadership, maternity and caregiving, mentorship, wellbeing, visibility, retention, and the psychological aspects of working in STEM. Writing should be reflective, respectful, and framed so that it offers value beyond a single organisation or country.

Institutional and Structural Articles

We accept articles that examine organisational, cultural, or systemic factors affecting women in STEM. These may be written from an academic, professional, policy, or institutional perspective.

Topics may include work culture, leadership pipelines, education, recruitment and retention practices, skills development, training, visibility, wellbeing, and psychological safety in STEM environments.

Data Led and Research Informed Articles

Articles that draw on data, statistics, reports, or research are welcome. All sources must be credible, clearly referenced, and presented accurately. Authors are responsible for ensuring that data is used in context and that conclusions are proportionate to the evidence provided.

Authorship and Credit

All accepted articles are published with the author’s name. An author bio is included at the end of each article, allowing contributors to share their background, expertise, and professional focus.

Authors retain shared copyright of their work. By submitting an article, authors grant the Women in STEM Network the right to publish, edit for clarity and style, and promote the content across our platforms. Authors remain free to reference and share their work elsewhere, provided the Women in STEM Network is acknowledged as the original publisher.

Accuracy and Responsibility

Authors are responsible for the accuracy of their content. Claims should be supported where appropriate, and opinions should be clearly presented as such.

We do not publish content that is defamatory, misleading, discriminatory, or harmful. Articles must not name or identify individuals or organisations in a negative or accusatory manner. Content should be written in good faith, with professionalism and care.

Tone and Audience

The Women in STEM Network writes for a global audience. Articles should be inclusive, accessible, and respectful of different cultures, career stages, and lived experiences.

We encourage a professional, thoughtful tone that balances honesty with responsibility. Content should aim to inform, support, and advance constructive dialogue rather than provoke or assign blame.

Editing and Publication

All submissions are reviewed and may be lightly edited for clarity, structure, length, and consistency with our editorial standards. Substantive changes will not be made without the author’s knowledge.

Submission does not guarantee publication. We reserve the right to decline content that does not align with our mission, values, or editorial focus.
