Behind the Build

How We’re Creating the Women in STEM Network

We're building a new Women in STEM Network platform, to be more than just a website, it’s a global platform for mentorship, visibility, collaboration, and equity.

The Vision

A professional platform designed to close the global support gap for women in STEM.  The platform is being developed as a single, integrated space that combines mentorship, recruitment, training, and peer connection—ensuring that women at every stage of their careers have access to high-quality, structured support.

Key Features Under Development

Our platform will include four dynamic hubs:
Mentorship Hub
💡 Mentorship Hub

A dedicated area of the platform where women in STEM can connect with mentors at all career stages. This includes one-to-one mentoring, group mentoring sessions, and live discussions focused on navigating challenges in STEM.

Mentors and mentees will be able to connect based on experience, industry sector, or specific areas of focus, including leadership development, returning to work, or transitioning between roles.

Recruitment Hub
🧭 Recruitment Hub

The platform will feature a job board and recruitment tools designed for inclusivity and accessibility.

Employers will be invited to post roles, offer insights into their hiring processes, and connect with a diverse talent pool of women in STEM. Members will also have access to CV support, interview preparation resources, and industry-specific guidance from recruitment experts.

Social & Collaboration Hub
Social & Collaboration Hub

A community engine to power innovation, peer support, and networking.

  • Subject- and sector-specific discussion groups

  • Forums and live chats

  • Project collaboration spaces

  • User-generated content driving platform growth

Skills Hub
Skills

We are building a growing library of CPD-accredited webinars, focused on:

  • Leadership, confidence, and communication

  • Interview techniques and career resilience

  • Subject-specific training and technical refreshers

  • Career transitions and re-entry

  • Global case studies from women working in STEM

All training is designed to be practical, relevant, and accessible across sectors and career stages.

A Platform with Purpose

While the current focus is on digital infrastructure, we are already contributing to the global conversation on equity in STEM. Our leadership has been invited to speak at international conferences and academic events, and our platform has been featured in media coverage and sector reports.

Our development is funded by founding members and partners. Their early involvement enables us to launch key services, invest in scalable technology, and maintain a high standard of professional content.

Every new feature is designed to support real people working in STEM, not just to tick boxes. And we’re proud to build in public, with accountability and community at the core.

"Mentorship plays a crucial role in career development, skill-building, and providing socio-emotional support, especially for women in STEM. Research indicates that effective mentorship programs significantly improve participation and representation in these fields. When paired with mentors, young women feel supported, acknowledged, and included. Having role models is essential for retaining women in STEM, as it encourages young women and girls to pursue careers in these areas and keeps them engaged.

My passion for mentorship is deeply rooted in her own academic journey, I did not have a mentor in my early career so I strives to be the guide I once needed through my work in the Women in STEM Network helping women navigate the obstacles I had once faced and help them avoid them.

"Mentorship is a win-win,” “you always gain something from your mentee if you're open and listen. The best mentoring starts with listening, and not pushing your path onto them, but helping them find their own."
